Brady Bunch, The Comments (You must Login to Comment)

I remember Susan Olsen gave an interview where she said she hated the Shirley Temple episode and she felt embarrassed during filming because her character was way too old to be obsessed with a five year-old film star. I think that was more of a jumping the shark moment than even the addition of Cousin Oliver. -- Submitted By: (VegasGirl) on February 15, 2017, 8:33 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
The show started going south when the rumor mill began about the love triangle involving Alice, Mike and Sam the Butcher. I am talking about the real life people, not the characters of course. Not many people remember this, but it happened in late 1972. This was at a time when knowledge of Robert Reed being a pillow-biter was not wide-spread. Because the actors never spoke about it, most people speculated that Robert Reed and Sam the Butcher were double-teaming Alice...it was not until after Robert Reed was outed as a Comrade of the Colon that people started to rethink what REALLY went on in the love triangle. The tension between Mike Brady and Alice is undeniable after this event, so perhaps Alice was upset that Mike was monopolizing Sam the Butchers "meat"? According to crew members of the show, the saying around the set was: Never get in between Robert Reed and his meat. I am guessing Alice took exception to this and that is what caused the obvious on-air tension. Frankly, I am surprised Sherwood Schwartz did not replace Alice for the remainder of the series...he could have easily called in Hazel to take over role of Alice, but for some reason he decided to let them try to work it out. It clearly backfired, and as a result, the show Boned the Fish. -- Submitted By: () on October 15, 2015, 12:57 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
I won't make any Cousin Oliver/Scrappy Doo comparisions like others may as I'm not even a Scooby fan so it'd be a moot point Scooby with or without Scrappy (they're the same crap to me..) but Brady IS a show I do enjoy so I WILL say Cousin Oliver ... But one of the most underrated of the family members themselves (the original 9) is MARCIA Brady. Yes..she is MUCH MALIGNED..Marcia, Marcia, marcia. Attacked on Internet Movie Database just for having human flaws, attacked as too sexy, she is the neato-est. Jan (all due respect, Eve Plumb) was just whiny, whiny. -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on August 25, 2015, 12:55 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Cousin Oliver, with no doubt in my mind! Looked like a very young John Denver, and was VERY annoying. The Brady's already had like 28 ppl living in that house, so why did Oliver's parents just pawn him off on an already crowded household??? They were probably trying to get away from his annoying ass. -- Submitted By: (JTScomments) on August 19, 2014, 5:23 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

I never saw any of the episodes with Cousin Oliver. Or if I did, I've forgotten about them -- for which, if that's actually the case, from everything I've heard I should count myself fortunate. Anyway, after having my memory jogged by seeing some reruns on classic TV channels, for me the show went BTF when the kids started up their singing group and it seemed like they were singing at the drop of a hat. I wouldn't go so far as to say they couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but it did need to be a fairly small tune and a pretty big bucket. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on June 29, 2013, 9:23 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Oh brother. Here we go again. Did no one learn anything from 'The New Brady Bunch' and 'The Bradys'? Seriously, must we ruin it for all time? -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on August 5, 2012, 10:12 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
**Filet Knife Alert** - Brady Bunch Reboot In The Works At CBS Behind Vince Vaughn. The comedy will focus on Bobby Brady, a character from the original show, who is now a divorced dad starting a new family with his second wife with children of her own. http://tinyurl.com/cu8a5gw -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on August 3, 2012, 10:24 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Totally agree Joe. It's called separating the art from the artist. I consider it an important life skill. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on March 5, 2012, 11:04 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
To those who said the show boned when Mike Brady was gay in real life, you are wrong. Robert Reed was gay, not Mike Brady. Neil Patrick Harris is gay but not Doogie Howser or his character from How I met your Mother. In another light the characters of Will and Jack on Will and Grace were gay but the actors are not. This is a big difference. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 3, 2012, 6:00 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
The show was just developing during its first 2 seasons. The show was at its sentimental peak the years the family went to Grand Canyon and Hawaii during seasons 3 and 4 (which also saw the kids sing). But season 5 was a fatal disservice as Peter and Jan looked and were of high school age, Bobby and Cindy were of adelescent age, and the arrival of cousin Oliver: The show just went as far as it really could. -- Submitted By: () on February 22, 2012, 10:01 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Haven't we had enough of BB scandals. So they weren't perfect off screen but give it a break. They were all on drugs or gay or severeley depressed and now FH had STD (you look it up). When will we have enough of these celbrity exposes, confessions or whatever from over the hill celebs. Enough already! -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on June 26, 2011, 3:46 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

Some people use the curly perms of Mike and Greg as an excuse to bone the Brady Bunch. That was the style of the time, an honestly I think it was an improvement for both of them. They were just too straight and white bread to begin with. The show still sucked though. Cheesy and corny but I watched it because there was nothing else worth watching on the networks. Thank God for Cable and Dish. -- Submitted By: (fletch000) on February 10, 2010, 1:13 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
For me, it was the singing. It was a very obvious attempt to compete with The Partidge Family. Shifting subjects- I always thought it was interesting that Sherwood Schwartzs' first choice for 'Mike Brady' was Gene Hackman. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on February 5, 2010, 9:57 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
