Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

One of my friends used to have DirecTV until he moved, and now he has cable. He HATES it. On DirecTV if you want to know what's on you just hit the "guide" button and start scrolling. On cable there's a guide "channel" which scrolls through so slowly you're actually better off just flipping through channels one by one! Total Request Live (TRL) - TV Shows
I remember when this show first started and they showed the top five requested videos in their entireties; at that time the Goo Goo Dolls song Iris was probably the most over-played song on the radio but it seemed OK for City of Angels was a hit at the box office and MTV hadn't yet realized that the best and easiest way to make loads of money was to promote the Backstreet Boys as much as humanly and when that happened each day was: "Here at number one are the Backstreet Boys with. . .". After that, it was all about who to promote 24-7 so MTV can get richer faster namely the teenpop goo. I'd stopped watching the show long before this happened, but had the misfortune of catching bits and pieces of some loser girl say: "I'm requesting NSYNC's song BYE BYE BYE because I told my ex-boyfriend bye bye bye! WHOO!" TRL is a fine example of how MTV doesn't give a (censored) about real music anymore; it's all about money. Why else do we never see fat and bald but smart-as-hell-when-it-comes-to-music Matt Pinfield anymore? Why else would MTV have spent 60 to 90 minutes on how Britney Spears is the First Lady of TRL? Total Request Live (TRL) - TV Shows
I've just read that TRL is only live twice a week (M/W) and then tape a show afterwards. From what I've read, the video positions are the same from one day to the next. Um... as my posting below reveals, the music videos on TRL, just like on MTV are an afterthought. TRL just shows 5 second clips of videos these days and then cram as much MTV promos, celebs and artists who want to promote their latest work, and recap celebrity juiciness. All that is confirmed when I was sick from work a few weeks ago and ended up watching TRL. HEY MTV, WANNA KNOW WHY YOUR RATINGS HAVE PLUNGED ON TRL, FORCING YOU TO DO TAPINGS? No, don't look to Carson Daly leaving the show. Blame it on MUSIC VIDEOS leaving the show. You see MTV, teenagers vote for music videos they want to SEE on the show - back when the show started, TRL actually played just about ALL the video. Hey MTV, when you only show 5 seconds of a video, there's a reason your audience will tune out and go online to sites that will show the WHOLE music video. Get a clue MTV! The less music videos you show on your network, the more people tune out. The same goes for TRL. Why bother voting when you can't see the video you voted for? Total Request Live (TRL) - TV Shows
Once upon a time, TRL was a show that actually showed a FULL music video (or at least most of it). Then, hosts stepped in. Gradually, TRL became an infomercial about pop culture and less about the videos as sometimes, only a 5 second clip of a music video was shown. Wow, this sounds just like how MTV itself evolved. Someday, no videos will be shown and teenagers will still be voting! Total Request Live (TRL) - TV Shows
TRL has gone too far now. A recent episode I just saw had special guest stars, Avenged Sevenfold. Their first two albums were great, but their third album is whats making them MTV stars right now. First their on Headbangers Ball, now TRL. These guys suck now. They say they love bands like Pantera, Megadeth, and earlier Metallica, and they play metal, but how can you be a metal band when you have pop punk vocals in the mix? Its bad enough that we have to deal with the likes of Limp Bizkit, N Sync, Nelly, Britney Spears, and 50 Cent, but now Avenged Sevenfold just got added to that list. TRL has now gotten beyond worse. Its hard to watch when you have a band that was once metalcore on there and is now a mainstream alternative-metal band. I'm so pissed that they have so many fans and are selling so many copies of their new album. Way to go MTV. You just made a good band go bad, just like you did with Metallica. Wow is this supposed to be a music show? Seems more like one big long commercial and a place for plugging movies, events and crap. Nothing pisses me off more than this show and the whole MTV Network. It's bad enough TRL Is pretty much the only music show on mtv,but now they don't even play their videos ATLEAST half way like they did before,It's 20 seconds of a video then it's on to more guests, stupid questions with those guests, stupid games and pointless time with the "fans". Man i can't even enjoy a video anymore,I sware that the other day the Ludacris video "Number one spot" faded in and not 8 seconds later people started clapping and it got louder and louder and then screaming came about and it made it to 14 whole seconds (record time) and then bam! "That was Ludacris with number one spot,oh boy that's a great video"...no kidding,i wouldn't know. Someone needs to speak out loud on this,If you want music go to BET or MTV2,Because mtv isn't about music anymore and obviously MTV2 was made so they could get away with it. Simpsons, The - TV Shows
OK everybody, here's the truth about The Simpsons from somebody who's been watching the show since Day 1 (and on Day 1, i was about the same age as Bart...not so much anymore...) The show jumped the shark the day Phil Hartman died. It was on its way down when that happened, but the last truly hilarious season was season 8. (Phil's last episode aired at the beginning of Season 9.) Seasons 3 through 8 are what that show is, was, and always will truly be about. I remember crying from laughing so hard every week that those episodes aired in the mid- to late-1990s. Nothing on TV at the time even came close, and no show since has made me laugh so much within every episode of every season so consistently. That said, the show began to go slightly downhill by Seasons 7 and 8, and markedly by Seasons 9 and 10, but leveled off at some point around Seasons 10 and 11. People will leave comments saying that such-and-such season is the worst ever, but the truth is, it hasn't gotten much worse (or better) since season 10 or 11. In nearly every episode, there will be at least 2 or 3 genuine laughs that will hold up upon repeat viewing. And within every season, there will be 3 or 4 episodes that are downright hilarious...as well as 2 or 3 that just make you want to cringe. (The all-musical episode, The Simpsons Bible Stories, the N-Sync episode, etc. etc.) But remember: for a show that's been on the air for nearly 20 years, they had a good 8 year run, which was subsequently followed by a decent 11+ year run that has kept them within the funniest 5 or so American TV shows on the air at any given time. Sure, we all know how every episode is going to turn out, but we've known it for some time. It's still better than most shows, but nowhere near its height. But at its height, it was simply the funniest TV show ever to air--and every other cartoon show (and non-laugh-track live-action show, for that matter) owes The Simpsons its livelihood. To put it another way, The Simpsons stole every comedy idea to ever come across a TV screen that came before it, and made it their own by adding more. And every show that has come after The Simpsons has borrowed from those Simpsons-skewed ideas. It has proven to be the most influential comedy show to ever air on American TV. The Simpsons Jumped the Shark when the episodes started becoming so stupid and nonsensical that you felt like mailing matt groening hate-mail i dont consider myself "Christian" or a Religious-follower but i don't like the episodes where religion is mocked either, like when homer becomes the leader of the springfield church and does a whole bunch of blasphemous stuff, and the one when a toy rocket damages the church and it get's repaired in a "Casino-ized" fashion and another instance of blashemy on this show is where the simpsons are on top of their roof watching a meteor shower and homer makes the comment:"I Wish god were still alive to see this" Oct 15, 2007 12:06 PM Dallas This comment was taken from www.jumpedtheshark.com -- Submitted By: (jumpedthesharkcommenttaker) on March 6, 2010, 5:25 pm

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
Last Season (18) was without a doubt the worst season of the Simpsons ever. However, now at season 19, only three episode have premiered (forth premiering in only 2 hours) they have far surpassed the quality of that awful season. From what I can tell, only one of the three writers of those episodes worked on the show last season, so there is new blood. That means no more of the crap from last year. Time to look to the future. We don't want another season 18, 19 is better already. I think the three hundredth episode jumped the shark. Maybe it was a little bit before that, but I remember the 300th episode being super-hyped, and I didn't like it as much as the reruns they played on WB. And after that, they just weren't that funny. Conan O'Brien was a great writer for the show. Oct 12, 2007 8:06 PM Andrew This comment was taken from www.jumpedtheshark.com -- Submitted By: (jumpedthesharkcommenttaker) on March 6, 2010, 5:23 pm

Lost - TV Shows
It jumped when the Others had Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Locke surrounded...and let them go. And then a few episodes later concocted a very elaborate scheme involving Michael killing Ana Lucia and Libby so as to lure Jack, Kate, and Sawyer into their clutches. But as I said, they had them surrounded a few episodes ago, why not take them then? Also, why didn't Ben just ASK Jack to perform the surgery when they first landed? He probably would have said yes. And finally, I love how the Others kept saying "we're not murderers", but Ethan killed the guy on the beach and nearly killed Charlie. And Goodwin killed a bunch of people, too. Got lame after the 1st season ended. Oct 8, 2007 6:19 PM Anonymouseee This comment was taken from www.jumpedtheshark.com -- Submitted By: (jumpedthesharkcommenttaker) on March 6, 2010, 5:20 pm

Lost - TV Shows
Too many annoying characters getting too much air time. And also the story just got more and more unbelievable and cliched. It's truly tragic that a show with such great potential really went downhill so much that they aren't considered for the Emmy anymore after the first season. Second season was a real disaster. The story moves along at a snails pace while at the same time they introduce new mysteries instead of answering old ones in every episode. The final episode will be a real bummer because it will all be a dream or involve drugs or something like that. Joebagofdonuts has a point, nevertheless. I am beginning to think that including new topics was a mistake all along. The political topics, which only bring users at each other throats, are somewhat irritating, because really, they can't be worded it a way that it would be making sense for voting "never boned" or "day one", because political issues don't tend to be clear cut. Then there are the whole topics where people are judging celebrities. It's turning into a bashing site! You don't know them, so please, give them a break! Full House - TV Shows
Agreed. I like this show, yet I can't watch it past season five, which I believe was the last good season. In season six I just got really stupid with DJ dating that fat deadbeat, and all the focus being shifted on Michelle being a spoiled brat (You can't watch it for five minutes without wanting to reach into the TV and backhand her), and the plots became really cheesy and unbelievable. (The Disney crossover episode was the worst). Then by season 8, it was a mess. What is weird though is as the show got crappier, the ratings went higher. Goes to show America's taste for quality television.... -- Submitted By: (Runfromcheney) on March 6, 2010, 1:24 pm

Sapphire & Steel - TV Shows
Never really 'boned the fish.' Very low budget attempt of the UK's ITV to rival time travel drama of Doctor Who, but even the Doctor was suffering from special effects during the early 1980s too. Some of the stories dragged on for ever - the soldier on the train station. And one wonders what Steel actually does apart from order Sapphire around! That said, the episode where victims are 'trapped in photographs' was extremely creative, and the one with the imaginary rooftop building. The cliffhanger ending in the petrol station also rounded off a series that posed more questions than answers. Great TV. -- Submitted By: (ivortheengine) on March 6, 2010, 1:22 pm

Twin Peaks - TV Shows
I genuinely like this show. However, it should be noted that the reason why the producers eventually revealed the killer was because the show generally was about the musings of the townspeople, and the murder was just a subplot. However, many didn't understand that, and just thought the show was about the murder, and thus quit watching after their identity was revealed. -- Submitted By: (Runfromcheney) on March 6, 2010, 1:16 pm

My problem with affirmative action is that it seems to go against the concept of equal opportunities. It's one thing to accommodate those who are at a disadvantage who are otherwise qualified. AA seems more letting someone in that may not be qualified simply because of something over which they have little to no control. If they *are* qualified, one should judge giving them the job or admitting them to the school based on the same standards for everyone. Because of space technology we have satellites (without them, there'd be no radio, no TV, etc.), along with knowledge of planets and other celestial objects. Looking back, I realize I should've said "space tech" instead of NASA, partly because the USA is not the only nation with space tech, and other nations have contributed greatly to knowledge about space. Reality TV seems to be making a shift from competition based where group members are humiliated/eliminated one by one until there's a "winner" to people doing real stuff but with lots and lots of mindless yelling and cursing. It still defies the laws of physics by sucking and blowing at the same time regardless. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 6:10 pm

Raising the Bar - TV Shows
Raising the bar? More like LOWERING it!!! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 6:02 pm

Tina Fey - Celebrities
Tina Fey is an example of how what peopel today call "funny" is really just extreme snarkiness. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:59 pm

Bill Maher - Celebrities
Agree wholeheartedly. Maher is the worst. Literally, he's the worst human being in America today. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:56 pm

Barack Obama II - Celebrities
PYRulz, how is it possible for politics to have hijacked it *this* badly when Democrats are in control of Congress? If anything the fact they're in such control and STILL can't get this passed ought to send up a HUGE red flag about how horrible an idea it is! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:55 pm

Barack Obama II - Celebrities
Robert, any normal, sensible, rational person WOULD have given up by now, but it's as if now this is personal to Obama and he's more determined than ever to force this on us, just to show the world he's boss. I really think he sees our opposition to Obamacare as an insult to his manhood. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:53 pm

Dukes of Hazzard, The - TV Shows
Thanks Pelirojo, glad to get that mystery straightened out :-) I actually did know the bit about moonshining and how NASCAR started. Not that it makes NASCAR's existence today right of course. Really if not for Catherine Bach the show would've been unwatchable to me, even as a kid and before the Coy And Vance Fiasco. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:50 pm

Knight Rider (2008) - TV Shows
Holy guacamole this show blew. From a cast of generically hot C-level actors (who I haven't seen in anything since) to the fact the group was headed up by an ex-guest star on Seinfeld who was the only character I gave a darn about so naturally he was killed off, to the fact that the guy playing Michael Knight literally got his ass kicked in every episode, the whole thing probably BTF *before* Day One when the idea entered someone's mind! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:46 pm

FOX News - TV Shows
MCS, was this university in the south? Because that's the only possible area where there would be even a REMOTELY conservative college. In every other part of the country they've been liberal for at least the last 40 years. Now it's to the point where the professors try harder to brainwash students than actually teach them anything. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:42 pm

Wal-Mart - Random Topics
Jconifer7, the main problem is that once Wal Mart moves in there *aren't* any more stores to shop around in, unless you're willing to drive 20-50 miles out of your way just to get toilet paper and a toothbrush. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:40 pm

Pardon the Interruption - TV Shows
Any "sexual harrassment" lawsuit stemming from THAT would've been laughed out of court. Besides, Kornheiser actually has more value as an employee of ESPN than Storm does. As I said before, I didn't even know where she was or what she was doing before this brouhaha. If anything she should be THANKING Kornheiser for boosting her career and putting her back on the map! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:37 pm

Latrell Sprewell - Celebrities
Nope, they definitely defended the coach choking by portraying SPREWELL as the victim. They also did the same thing with Todd Bertuzzi. Remember him? I think that might've been the proverbial Last Straw for me that resulted in canceling my subscription. In other words, it was a personal BTF moment for me as far as SI was concerned. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:35 pm

I haven't had a severe problem with the ads--yet. But I do notice that if I spend too long at that site my PC's speed dips to snail-like levels. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:32 pm

Las Vegas - Random Topics
Wait, the poker fad ended??? Since when??? What annoys me is the whole "Sin City" gimmick, as if Americans can't and aren't sinning *everywhere* these days. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:31 pm

National Public Radio - Random Topics
So in your view NPR=Not Polarized reporting? :-) It seems pretty liberal to me on the rare occasions I listen to it. Then again, the rest of the media is so far left that a source that's just kinda sorta liberal would seem perfectly normal in comparison. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:30 pm

NASA - Random Topics
Robert, normally I agree with your posts. But exactly how has NASA helped or benefited American education and science, both of which are currently at their lowest levels ever and a joke to the rest of the civilized world? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:26 pm

Night Court - TV Shows
Markie definitely gave every man watching the show a 'post" back in the day, if ya know what I mean ;-) -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:25 pm

Microwave ovens - Random Topics
I literally don't know what I'd do without my microwave. I know people love to say that about *everything* these days, including texting and HDTV but it's really true. I simply cannot imagine myself spending 2 hours every night cooking something. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 4, 2010, 5:21 pm

Planet of the Apes (TV series) - TV Shows
I tried to get into this show. I was a big fan of the movies (even the made for TV ones) and was very disappointed that this series didn't follow movie canon very well. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on March 4, 2010, 5:07 pm

Urban Dictionary - Websites
It's absolutely helpful when someone uses some slang, and you wonder what it means, but well over half the crap on there is nothing more than some submission from a sophomoric teenager that supposedly deals with sex. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on March 4, 2010, 3:36 pm

Urban Dictionary - Websites
Some of the definitions are really, really stupid. I totally agree that just about every entry has at least one pointless sexual definition. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 4, 2010, 9:17 am

Man, I hate their commercials. What's worse is their idiotic ditties get stuck in your head. It certainly doesn't make me want to visit their site. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 4, 2010, 9:13 am

Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies - Movie Series
You know, I grew up with these cartoons, and I didn't grow up thinking Warner Bros.' depiction of various ethnicities was accurate. They were just cartoons. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 4, 2010, 8:54 am

Rachel Maddow Show (TV series), The - TV Shows
Another shrieking liberal harpie, all emotion, fairness, and bleeding heart BS without a shred of logic or reason. I'm a massive fan of 60's tv - Bewitched,Get Smart et al - but this one is painfully unfunny & stupid with ordinary actors and lame writing. -- Submitted By: (ChuckC) on March 4, 2010, 7:03 am

I used to like watching Jay Leno. But after he and NBC screwed Conan, I'm done with Jay for good. I'm going back to watching Letterman at 11:35. -- Submitted By: (BRB_TheFireball) on March 3, 2010, 8:51 pm

Flo - TV Shows
I will add though, this should not be construed as a knock against the talent of Polly Holliday. I've seen other work that she has done and she has very broad range as an actress. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on March 3, 2010, 8:32 pm

Flo - TV Shows
Yes, so the show started out strong in the ratings, and one could argue that it was the time slot change that killed it, but I NEVER thought of the character of Flo, as funny as she was on Alice, as anything more than a supporting character. And I certainly never thought the character was strong enough to carry an entire show. Frankly, I'd think that if the show had really been that good, it certainly would've survived a time change. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on March 3, 2010, 8:29 pm

Bob Knight - Celebrities
This guy was an egomaniacal psychopath. So what, you're a coach? That makes you better than everyone else? And he's a moron, too. I love it how that Kent Harvey kid successfully baiting Knight into assaulting him. Knight fell for it hook, line, and sinker and got fired. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on March 3, 2010, 3:40 pm
