Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

Bones - TV Shows
Ugh... I thought last week's episode ending with Booth speaking directly to Stewie Griffin (Family Guy character) was bad enough... then this week's coma-fantasy just made it worse. Though I felt what they did to Zach was already quite a bone-the-fish moment at the time, the potential assistants they've rotated around with have all been good actors and nice refresh, since all of them have their own quirks and personalities. But I may have to give up on this show soon. This last episode felt as out of place as the Boreanaz directed Angel, "Soul Purpose", which was also a fantasy dream ep. -- Submitted By: (bk) on May 14, 2009, 3:26 pm

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Movie Series
The first movie was great. The second one had its problems, but was still good. The third one, with its stupid time-travelling plot and ridiculous slapstick, was the boning point of the series. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on May 14, 2009, 2:26 pm

Harry Potter - Movie Series
The fifth book spanned over 700 pages and took several hours to read from cover to cover. The movie was less than 3 hours long. It was a super-abridged version of the book. You can't fit a gallon of water into a bottle that holds a pint. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 14, 2009, 12:22 pm

Quiet Riot - Music Groups
Quiet Riot rocked till the end. They dared to make a heavy metal video in the early 80's when we were being overrun by all the English new wave bands. I had the opportunity to see them live in 2000 when I was stationed in Korea. They absolutely rocked the house that night. I had the opportunity to meet Kevin DuBrow before this show and he was such a nice and personable guy. I was saddened when he recently passed away. Kevin, I assure you that neither you or your bandmates ever tasted any fish whatsoever. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 13, 2009, 8:46 pm

Scooby Doo - TV Shows
Boned when they started messing with the cast. Scrappy was a little bearable at first, but once all the humans except Shaggy mysteriously vanished, he seemed to become more annoying. Then Daphne inexplicably returned, but none of the others. Then there was some annoying little kid. Only the classic crew of characters really made this show work. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on May 13, 2009, 3:56 pm

Book of Secrets had a hidden Aztec Temple near Mt. Rushmore. Hello?! The Aztecs were in Mexico, and Mt. Rushmore is in South Dakota! You know, IN THE NORTH? If they make a third movie, what's it going to be about, a secret Tibetan temple in the Statue of Liberty? The first National Treasure was pretty good, though. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 13, 2009, 12:31 pm

hee hee! these comments are great! I like Mcdonalds food -their hamburgers and fries are my favorites. but I agree 100% with these comments about the current advertising. National Treasure - Movie Series
I,too, really liked watching 'National Treasure' in that so many legit puzzles re the US Founding Fathers and the Masons got speculated about in a rather fascinating approach and it had an incredible pay off of having virtually every lost treasure of history being rediscovered at the end! Unfortunately, the sequel was incredibly BAD! First off, the motivations for the new goose chase were less noble than the first one- finding a lost temple first would somehow vindicate the rep of an ancestor that neither Ben nor any of the family he DID know had ever met. I mean, a true detective is supposed to seek evidence of the truth and be ready to accept it even if it proves hurtful to his or her ego. Many other things just didn't wash here but since I don't want to make this too long, I'll skip most of my objections and just say that the idea of the Aztecs building a gigantic waterworld underground temple in the Black Hills of South Dakota was incredibly bogus. Even if one refuses to accept the idea that the Aztecs didn't have wheeled transport, why would they BOTHER going so far away from their own empire to do this? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on May 13, 2009, 7:18 am

America's Funniest Home Videos - TV Shows
Never really understood the appeal of this show. Grandma falls off the roof and presumably shatters her pelvis - Oh yeah, funny. A cat coughing up a furball on somebody in his sleep, oh boy. A 4 year old throwing a temper tantrum in Wal-Mart because they bought him the wrong toy, oh right, Hilarious. And the 5,000th shot to the groin.. A few funny ones thrown in, like Grandma's snoring sound like a crying baby, A dog getting spooked and jumping in the air, but too many stuipd ones. -- Submitted By: (Ken) on May 13, 2009, 2:29 am

Boned the Fish with the 5th season. The whole show originally had an "Endless Summer" plot, but the whole going to School/autumn thing defeated the whole purpose of the show. I don't think it ever has. Yeah, some of the newer shows don't really fit in, like, Ufo Hunters, MonsterQuest and Life after humans and the others, they probably belong on the Science or Discovery channels, but they are interesting and all around good shows. They mostly show History as well, but most of it has gone to the other History channels like "Hist. International". I don't know if the possible second Bone "The Hitler Channel" counts or not anymore due to the "Military Channel" being launched (Never really minded the WWII Documentary marathons myself, though). (There are other shows, too, but these are the good ones from looking at old JTS posts) Now we got STUPID shows like "NEW All That", "Catdog", "Spongebob", "Fairly Oddparents", plus (guess what) teenage shows similar in fashion to what killed "The Disney Channel"!!!!! Beauty and the Beast - Movie Series
"Beauty and the Beast" was the first movie I have ever seen in a movie theater, back when I was just 4 years old! It's my all-time favorite Disney movie ever! Of all the Disney movies ever made (especially the Golden Age ones), this one stands apart from the rest because it just makes you want to feel good inside and out! I also can't wait for the Blu-ray to come out in October 2010 (hopefully I'll have the hardware by then). So if anyone thinks "BatB" has nuked the fridge (or boned the fish) for any reason but "Never Boned/Nuked", you're not thinking fourth-dimensionally (as Doc would say). Thank you. -- Submitted By: (SVN) on May 12, 2009, 6:55 pm

The Bubba the cave duck story arc pretty much ruined the show's focus and brought in an annoying and useless character. GizmoDuck on the other hand was a much more interesting character and actually fit in with the show's adventure premise. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on May 12, 2009, 5:44 pm

Quack Pack - TV Shows
Boned from the first day. A Duckburg mostly inhabited by humans and Donald's nephews as trendy-hip teenagers with Donald himself mostly consigned to the background just didn't work, and this show would mark the beginning of the end of the Disney Afternoon. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on May 12, 2009, 4:57 pm

Sonic The Hedgehog (SatAM) - TV Shows
A decent Saturday Morning action cartoon, certainly better than the goofball "weekday" series that ran at the same time, and certainly worlds ahead of the abomination known as Sonic Underground, but "SatAm" was highly overrated. The characters from the video game series were pretty much replacable in what was supposed to be their own show, with the ones created specifically for the series seemingly dominating. You could take out Sonic, Tails and Robotnik, swap in some generic replacements, call this Super Furry Freedom Fighters, and it wouldn't have been all that different. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on May 12, 2009, 4:15 pm

Super Mario World - TV Shows
This show was dreadful from day one, plagued by obnoxious and painfully stupid characters, ridiculous plots and poor animation. A couple of reasons they boned the fish. 1 - Going from their classic design with in-depth 24/7 local listings & nice articles about television shows and TV stars to a US Weekly-Lite gossip rag with barebones one-size-fits-all-tv-markets listings. 2 - Killing "the original". Sonic the Hedgehog - Random Topics
The second reason Sonic boned being gimmicky gameplay. When the series got all these extra characters and gadgets and motivations that nobody cared about, somebody had to DO something with them. So, in order to make these characters and extra crap look less like the nuisances that they were, the games had to be built in such a way that the extras were made an integral part of gameplay. Sonic Adventure incorporated the least annoying version of this idea: levels that you can only complete using a certain character. Kunckles Chaotix introduced a glitchy tag team system, Sonic Riders introduced surfboards with bad control, Shadow the Hedgehog gave the main character GUNS. Even Sonic himself wasn't immune to these changes: in numerous games he is now required to do "tricks" in order to pass certain parts of a stage, tricks that are generally done by pressing an extra button that is only used when it is time to do the trick. Once again, Sega should have taken a lesson from Nintendo in this regard. Adding new character abilities isn't bad in and of itself in the least: Mario can do more than run, jump, and shoot like he did in the first SMB. However, there's a way to do it, and a way not to. Character actions should be generally useful throughout the game, and fairly independent of location or setting in the game. An action should not exist for the sole purpose of completing a scenario which exists for the sole purpose of permitting the action to be used. If character X has a long jump, said long jump should generally be up to the user to decide when it should be used, and it should be useful in more than one place. There may be scenarios in the game where a long jump is required, and may be the only way to complete the scenario, however it is set up such that it is not a pointless exercise. Sonic does it the wrong way: you have your basic moveset, then you have these extra movesets and buttons. In some games, there are parts where, once you get to them, you are required to press the buttons in a certain order in order to proceed or activate a special move. These moves aren't useful anywhere else but there. Furthermore, in many of these places, the gimmick is the only way to proceed through the level. Nothing would be lost by removing both the gimmick and the move, which points to how useless the move really is. Mario doesn't do this: Mario gives you a set of moves, and you get to decide what to do with them. All in all, this made a game that no one really wanted to play, save the hardcore fans. When you think of games that are fun to just pick up and play, Sonic probably isn't among them, and if he is, you're probably thinking of an earlier incarnation. Nobody is going to compare Sonic Unleashed to SMB64, or even Luigi's Mansion. Sonic Rush will always be the Sonic that could have been better, because they incorporate more of these bad ideas into that series. Really, if I were Sega, I would do a tongue in cheek retcon of the whole series. Let's forget everything that came before, and do it New Super Mario Bros style. Take some of the old stuff, add in some of the features from Sonic 3 and Knuckles, keep the basic plot of the old Sonic, and go from there. Sonic has the same problem that Star Trek had: there's just too much garbage in the past for things to keep going on like this. Sega should really go back to the drawing board on this one. -- Submitted By: (castaghast) on May 12, 2009, 1:37 pm

Mask, The - Movie Series
I remember watching movie previews when there was one for the Mask 2. I heard a guy in the audience go, "Aw, they RUINED it!" I think the Mask was great, but Jim Carrey making funny faces starts to wear off. That's probably why he chose to star in some serious movies from that point on. The first Mask was fun, the second Mask was garbage. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 12, 2009, 1:19 pm

Laverne & Shirley - TV Shows
I've often wondered if they thought the LA move would bring in NEW fans instead of just making it that much harder for their already weary fans to keep watching. And what was the point of keeping Shirley in the title if she wasn't on or even mentioned anymore? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on May 12, 2009, 11:39 am

Colbert Report, The - TV Shows
Sometimes it's funny watching seeing those guests who (despite the pre-show disclosure ) actually think Stephen's totally LEGIT in what he's saying! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on May 12, 2009, 11:36 am

Star Trek - Movie Series
Excuse me for keeping the art of dissent alive but. . . J.J. Abrams has once again used time travel as a means to deal with plot problems(see also "Lost"). While this tactic may be hailed far and wide now, in 20 years time (if anyone's still around), time travel may be considered by many to be the last refuge of sci-fi hacks who can't think of any other means to get out of corners they've painted for themselves! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on May 12, 2009, 11:23 am

Radio - Random Topics
Before I purchased my new truck, all I had was FM. I was forced to listen to public radio because the rest was just horrible. After my new XM setup, I won't ever go back. It seems like so much time wasted before just trying to find something decent on FM, no longer. Joe I think you should try XM for a month or so, you'll be hooked. -- Submitted By: (Hikariu) on May 12, 2009, 7:00 am

Radio - Random Topics
Joebag- I thought the same thing (why pay for radio), until the format of my favorite FM station was changed from rock to country for no reason in 2006, then I got Sirius out of protest because I was mad at the FM stations in general in my area. It was the best thing that ever happened to me with audio entertainment. Satellite radio is about 1000x better than FM ever was. Now the funny thing is, my car was out for about 3 days after I had satellite for about a year for a body work issue so I had a car without satellite for three days, and having to go back to the regular FM stations was literally torture because it was just that damn lousy to the awesome radio I had become used to. I have never met anyone that has had Satellite radio that says it isnt worth every penny, the only people that say it isnt worth it, dont have it, and normally have never even listened to it. Expand your mind Joe, and try it out, you'll love it! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on May 12, 2009, 5:03 am

Lowe's kicks Home Depot's butt hands down. I hate shopping in an orange themed store and the workers aren't as nice. I'll take Lowe's every time. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 12, 2009, 12:13 am

Jeopardy! - TV Shows
I originally thought that Ken Jennings made Jeopardy rock, but now that I think of it, having Saturday Night Live do regular skits about your show probably means you still rock. What is....it still rocks? -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 12, 2009, 12:10 am

Britney Spears - Celebrities
Poor Britney is a train wreck waiting to happen. She another celebrity that has boned the fish so many times you just can't decide which one to pick. Exposing herself getting out of cars, carrying her baby on her lap while she drives, smoking, K-Fed, etc.... Take your pick. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 12, 2009, 12:06 am

Dolly Parton - Celebrities
Dolly has always rocked. She's able to poke fun at herself, especially the size of her chest. The lady can write a song, she can sing, she can play banjo and guitar, and she has an amusement park named after her. I think there should be a BTF rule book that if you have an amusement park named after you, you absolutely cannot be boning any fish. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 12, 2009, 12:03 am

Mike Tyson - Celebrities
Poor Mike Tyson. I feel sorry for him. He's had so much fish I think he's actually got mercury poisoning. I always know someone smells like fish when I click on their name and there are a good four or five reasons why they've boned the fish, and I agree with all of them. I guess he really boned it the worst when he started chewing on his competitors ears. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 12, 2009, 12:00 am

Radio - Random Topics
Sorry but regular radio rocks the house. The closest it gets to boning a fish is when a song comes on by Country Joe and the Fish. Where else can you get informative news shows and a pretty decent variety of music without having to join something. I don't have Sirus or XM and I'm sure they are fantastic but you do have to pay for them. Good old fashioned AM and FM radio absolutely rocks -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on May 11, 2009, 11:57 pm

That '70s Show - TV Shows
1. When Randy showed up... I don't know, he was just lacking something, and seemed unnecessary.. He didn't kill the show or anything though. 2. When Eric left for Africa... I beilve in real life, Topher Grace went to go play Spiderman on one of the more recent Movies. (Maybe the Randy character was meant to (temporarily) replace Eric?) But it just wasn't the same without the main character. 3. I was hoping to see Eric and Donna's wedding, they even got engaged I belive, I was on the edge of my seat, but it never happened. -- Submitted By: (Ken) on May 11, 2009, 10:37 pm

Night of the Living Dead - Movie Series
Well Said MrBriggsInc- Day of the dead was a great end to the trilogy, I enjoyed the Dawn remake, as well as the Dan Obannon Return of the Living Dead movie which was more of a Tribute. I boycotted LOTD, when I heard about teh Zombies being portrayed as victims and the silly hero Blck guy Zombie and the ending where they "make it known the zombies have a journey too" great way to show us some kind of terrorists are ok message Romero- you lost it after 1985. Land of the Dead and the new "Day of the dead" in name only Boned this For sure, and you are righjt, likea lurching zombie more crappy sequels to follow. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on May 11, 2009, 7:40 pm

Die Hard - Movie Series
Was he really a "Die Hard" in "Live Free"? He barely got hurt aside from a couple hits and the final shot. McClane facing insurmountable odds and suffering massive damage in the process is what Die Hard is about, not a whole bunch of generic stunts. Part 3 was kinda lite, but at least it had a more tense plot and chemistry. -- Submitted By: (MrBriggsInc) on May 11, 2009, 7:00 pm

Night of the Living Dead - Movie Series
Excellent series until after DAY OF THE DEAD. The new millenium smeared the official canon like earlier ripoffs smeared it alone. Land of the Dead was a cheap resurrection in a groan-worthy setting (Wow, a fortified city with an invincible patrol truck is such a chilling step from the tiny underground platoon where we last left the humans...) with a predictable and unfinished-seeming climax, Dawn of the Dead remake was entertaining at points but not really inspired, and Diary of the Dead was unnecessary and shoddily-done. Guess what, there's more coming up... This series just may go on like a zombie, ritualistic and meaningless. -- Submitted By: (MrBriggsInc) on May 11, 2009, 6:43 pm

Home Alone - Movie Series
I loved Home Alone 3 myself. Sure the thing wasn't as solid a film as the others... As a matter of fact I really don't remember the specific plot too well... But all the gags (EG the stuff the series is funny for) were still there, with some good new ones thrown in! The terrorist creeps were just as fun to watch screw up and fall into traps as the burglars, and isn't that what people watch the films for? <.< Home Alone 4 on the other hand was quite tedious: One-half of the burglars halfheartedly returns with some random chick, and fall into a house where IT does most of the work and the kid just sits around with a remote control pressing buttons? Was Kevin getting "too old for that crap" or something, or did the writers just think they were being clever? Talk about lazy... -- Submitted By: (MrBriggsInc) on May 11, 2009, 6:32 pm

Nightmare on Elm Street - Movie Series
Freddy has a pretty good series. 1, 3, 4, and 5 were a solid "Series-arc" altogether, part 2 I thought was even better than part 1, and New Nightmare had some good solid moments. The worst were Freddy's Dead and Freddy vs. Jason, but two bad apples don't spoil a bunch. This remake on the other hand... -- Submitted By: (MrBriggsInc) on May 11, 2009, 6:16 pm

Star Trek - Movie Series
Once again, I completely agree with C. Rain. This new J.J. Abrams version of Star Trek completely unboned the future of the series. Amazing movie that was tons of fun to watch! -- Submitted By: (Koskov) on May 11, 2009, 5:04 pm
