Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

Mixed feelings about AVGN cancelling. "After the Movie" is as a common boning moment as "Cousin Oliver", but there are literally hundreds of bad games out there for James to review. With the Wii, XBox360, and PS3 reaching the point of obsolescence (as well as the Gamecube, PS2, and XBox being over 10 years old), the number of bad games on old consoles will only grow. Then again, you don't want the Nerd to become a self-parody because it just won't cancel (cough *Simpsons* cough). There are other bad game reviewers on YouTube who are just as fun as the Nerd, so if he does retire, you can watch them instead. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 24, 2012, 12:45 pm

Ted Nugent - Music Groups
I guess it's the anti-animal rights stuff I agree with. What he said was beyond horrible. He thinks he's strong because he attacks a dead person? Anyone can tell you that's cowardice. There's nothing tough-guy about dancing on someone's grave, let alone that of the mother of his children. Is he trying to be as tasteless as Bill Maher or Michael Moore? -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 24, 2012, 12:43 pm

Thanksgiving - Random Topics
Black Thursday. Words are not vile enough to describe this trend, born this year. It's wrong for businesses to force their employees to miss their family's holiday so they can work the pre-Black Friday rush. It should be illegal. To those who protest by refusing to go to work on Thanksgiving, I salute you! To those who stay outside the store and get the CEOs thinking "Look at all these people who want to shop, we should open early", you should be ashamed of yourself. Just because you have no family or friends to visit on Thanksgiving, you want to ruin the holiday for others? -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 24, 2012, 12:39 pm

Christmas - Random Topics
The Christmas season should officially begin on the day after Thanksgiving. Not in October, not in September...the day right after Thanksgiving. To be fair, it's not the Christians' fault this holiday's been hijacked by commercialists. They're getting fed up of all the commercialism as well, including myself. For the record, I get sick of the constant bombardment/overexposure as well. And it's really annoying to hear a Christmas song (like Carol of the Bells, Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, etc.) with lyrics changed to peddle a product or service. This year, we have that infernal "Garmin dot com" commercial sung to the tune of Carol of the Bells. Make it stop! -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 24, 2012, 12:36 pm

I'd love to see Elmo be retired, but on yesterday's Macy's Parade Sesame Street float Elmo was there, front and center singing. (Sounded like it was still Clash's voice, too.) Nicole Richie - Celebrities
Granted, she was a complete train wreck for a few years, no doubt about it. That said, I do give her credit for growing up and gaining some perspective on how she ended up going off the rails. Her (adoptive) parents' divorce and custody fight when she was a child didn't help her cause any, but it looks like she's taking responsibility for her own mistakes instead of taking the easy-way "blame the parents" road. In recent years, she's even managing to carry enough weight that she looks healthy, unlike the "walking screcrow" look she used to have. I wish her luck and I hope she's learned her lesson! -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on November 23, 2012, 10:05 am

Simple Life, The - TV Shows
Back in the "Scottish Site" days, my assessment of this waste of film was "Season 1, shark jumper; season 2, shark bait; season 3 (and, in retrospect, thereafter), chum slick." The passage of time has not changed my assessment one iota. Without a doubt, it sucked, bit, and blew -- not only from Day 1 but also from the moment some doofus decided it would be cute to put Parasite Hilton into a reality show. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on November 23, 2012, 9:43 am

Boned not because of the holiday itself, but because of greedy corporate retailers like Target and Walmart who are opening at 9 PM on Thanksgiving day. If these assholes would simply open at 6 AM on Black Friday, they would still make the same amount of money and people could at least enjoy their Thanksgiving. Of course, blame also goes to all idiot shoppers who line up outside these stores hours before they open, thereby encouraging earlier openings. -- Submitted By: (John63btf) on November 20, 2012, 2:32 pm

Ted Nugent - Music Groups
Robert, I just thought of something that really bothered me about him that's even worse than him dissing us men who opt to not hunt. On the VH1 'Behind the Music' deal with him which did its best to celebrate him, they touched upon the fact that his first wife OD'd after losing a custody battle -and he GLOATED that it just showed she was weak and he was strong! No, I certainly didn't expect 'The Nuge' to be 'Mr. Sensitive' even in a case like this but would it have killed him to have said something along the lines of' Things ended bad between us and I don't pretend we were friends but she didn't deserve that and my kids sure didn't deserve to lose their mother'?! Even a blanket 'No comment' would have at least given the viewer the idea that possibly he might have had SOME compassion in private for his kids having had their mother die that way. His poor daughter was interviewed about this on the 'BTM' and she was STILL shaken about it years after the fact [who wouldn't be] but did he say or do more than gloat in front of her? Yeah, he played some good guitar but that went beyond the pale of all decency regardless of any political views and, yes, I'd say that if he'd been the one who'd died and she'd been the one who outlived him and gloated. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on November 19, 2012, 10:23 am

To Tell The Truth - TV Shows
Yeah, I know Pelirojo. That was sorta the joke. Obviously a guy smart enough to get away with hijacking an airplane isn't going to be dumb enough to show up on "To Tell The Truth" just because he wants to be on TV. I kind of hope he ends the series with the movie. E.T. is the ultimate bad game, the one that created a video game depression for three years (ended by the launch of Nintendo in 1986), and I don't see where you can go from there. James Rolfe is a very talented guy, and I'd like to see other projects he has up his sleeve, but I'm afraid AVGN would grow stale after the movie. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on November 18, 2012, 11:53 pm

It should be worth noting that around the time of the SOPA fiasco, the approval rating for Congress was around 9%. Not only is this lower than the lowest approval rating for any president since presidential approval ratings tracking began in the 1930s, but, from one comparison I saw, it's lower than the approval ratings for the IRS, lawyers, banks, and BP during the oil spill. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on November 17, 2012, 5:09 pm

Rocky - Movie Series
Rocky: Great underdog story and one of the best from nothing to something films in Hollywood. Rocky II: Very much an extension of the first one. Nothing too different. Rocky III: A bit flashy and more over the top. A great testament to the culture of excess in the 1980s as well as Sylvester Stallone's rapid rise to Hollywood A-lister during the 1980s, making it almost autobiographical. Probably known more for Eye of the Tiger and launch pad for Hulk Hogan and Mr. T. Rocky IV: Uses the Cold War as a center piece. Keeps a lot of the flash of Rocky III, though tones it down a bit. A little bit hokey and cheesy with it's overly jingoistic themes and unrealistic training scenes. Rocky V: Dark, depressing, not uplifting like other Rocky films. Unlikable characters and cheesy dialogue. Also features Stallone's son, who died recently, so overall, the boning point of the series. Rocky Balboa: A good modernized version of Rocky, though a bit unrealistic. Still, bring back the positivity and uplifting messages of the older Rocky films. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on November 16, 2012, 11:13 am

As I write this, in less than a week, the movie trailer has almost a million hits. It would've been cool if it were released in December 2012, the 30-year anniversary of ET's release on Atari. Better late than never, and ET sucked because it was rushed to make it to stores on time. Rocky - Movie Series
First of all, I have to say that being a boxer myself, Rocky, a very likeable character, is the absolute worst boxer in the world. In the real world, there could have been no way he could have ever been champion. That being said, "Rocky" is not reality, it is fiction. Therefore, the fact that Rocky has no skill or logical boxing technique does not really matter. Just a bit of an annoyance. "Rocky" and "Rocky Balboa" were the best of the series. "Rocky II" was nothing special, just and extension of the first one. "Rocky III" was not too bad, and it spawned the number one song of 1982, still popular today. "Rocky IV" was just plain odd. Understanding it is only fiction, the likeliness of the story every actually happening, or could have happened, is 'highly unlikely' to 'not a chance'. "Rocky V" was the weakest of the series, but still not the worst film I have ever seen. Overall, a good series, with good characters and story development. -- Submitted By: (paulbrec) on November 13, 2012, 2:42 am

Yeah, Pixar too. I remember when they were going to go off and do their own thing, then Disney turned around and just bought them out. Anyhow, I really don't know what to make of the Lucasfilms purchase. On one hand, George Lucas ruined the original trilogy with those loathed digital re-edits. Since he's so addicted to CGI, maybe it's a good thing. Another plus is Disney might know there's Hell to pay if they DARE Disney-fy the Star Wars trilogy. On the other hand, there's Disney sequelitis, and we could someday see Star Wars XIV: The Search for More Money. Monkees, The - TV Shows
I wish I could agree with you, gagedesoto, but decades after the fact, I FINALLY saw [bits] of the movie "Head" and their '33 and 1/3 Revolutions per Monkee' TV specials. What a depressing, humorless, disturbing and pointless one-two punch those two proved to be re the band and the show! If one wants to see the bounty of the excesses of the 1960's shadowside, those two productions are IT! Ironically, for the determined forensic Monkee maniacs, there ARE a few scattered entertaining moments even in the latter production [e.g. Peter Tork playing Beethoven on the harpsicord, the band jamming to Nesmith's 'Listen to the Band' before being overwhelmed by needless additions] but it's no wonder Tork was burned out by this that he quit the group right after the latter even though he had to cough up over $100 thousand to do so. Nesmith hung on for a few more albums and some commercials before a final one for Nerf balls in which he sincerely declared 'E-Nerf's e-Nerf' while being pummelled by them. However; all was not lost for the group in that the three sans Nesmith rejoined in the 80's . And for the TV fans, Nesmith scripted a reasonably entertaining 1997 'update' 'Hey Hey We're the Monkees' in which all four characters were still at that Malibu pad, being friends, having adventures and making music [of course this contrasted with the performers actual lives in which the four had had varied careers, about a dozen wives and sixteen kids]. Thankfully, that special pretended "Head" and '33 and 1/3 Revolutions' had NEVER happened which is best for all concerned, IMO. Now of course, Mr. Jones is no longer with us and the three remaining ones including Nesmith are touring as of November, 2012. Considering the number of times they've been declared dissolved, I can't help but think it's likely they'll find ways to tour together off and on until the last survivor. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on November 3, 2012, 4:38 pm

I'm cautiously optimistic about the sale. We saw what happens when George Lucas has total control over the franchise-- three execrable prequels, a lousy CGI cartoon, and even the original trilogy is marred by asinine changes. Honestly guys, I can't see how it can get much worse than it is now. I mean, the other day I saw Star Wars Angry Birds toys. How is a hypothetical crossover with Mickey Mouse worse than that? We'll either get more of the same, or perhaps, some good will come out of all of this now that George has little to no control of the franchise. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on November 3, 2012, 3:31 pm

A few good songs but overall this guy is very annoying. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on November 2, 2012, 6:06 pm

Haley Joel Osment - Celebrities
So what happened to this guy anyway? I guess he's another former child star who is unable to make it as an adult star. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on November 2, 2012, 6:01 pm

Megadeth - Music Groups
So Dave Mustaine believes that Obama was behind the Aurora theatre shootings. I never liked Megadeth anyway, but he sure has boned for saying such a thing. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks that Obama was behind Hurricaine Sandy. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on November 2, 2012, 5:54 pm

Best Buy - Random Topics
I stopped shopping there over ten years ago, I'd had enough of the insufferable teen employees who acted like you ruined their day if you asked them to do their job and help you. -- Submitted By: () on October 31, 2012, 6:10 pm

Star Wars - Movie Series
If you think Jar-Jar Binks is bad, get ready for the fishing pole because now Disney has brought Star Wars and planning to make a new trilogy. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on October 31, 2012, 5:12 pm

Star Wars - Movie Series
** FILET KNIFE ALERT ** Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are joining Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear and Iron Man in Disney's roster of heroes. Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion, adding the legendary Star Wars franchise to the entertainment giant's stable of characters. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by founder George Lucas. The purchase culminates a one and a half year pursuit of the Lucas empire, Disney's CEO said.http://tinyurl.com/8kd3hmq Get ready for "Jar-Jar Binks in Ewokland" -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on October 31, 2012, 8:52 am

SpongeBob SquarePants - TV Shows
I sat through a few newer episodes...they're really out of ideas. The plots are either lame (Gary meowing nonstop throughout an episode for snail treats), predictable (I was able to guess what would happen 9 out of 10 times. No joke!), or recycled from past episodes (Squid Baby was just Goo Goo Gas where only Squidward turned into a baby). In regards to a previous post mentioning Simpsons parallels, there are plenty: the stupid character who gets stupider with each passing season. The stupid character's progressive stupidity so overly forced as to be ridiculous. All the characters getting stupider. Digital ink and paint making the animation go from fluid to "militarily rigid" (thanks to Zombie Simpsons for that quote!). Recognizing themselves (one fish made a reference to "My Leg!" being a running gag). Acting out of character. Becoming parodies of themselves. Trying too hard to follow running gags (especially Mr. Krabs being obsessed with money). Voices becoming more and more high-pitched and whiny. Plots which have no purpose but to keep the show going. I think it's safe to call this new series "Zombie Spongebob". -- Submitted By: () on October 30, 2012, 11:05 pm

I just found out today that Disney's buying Lucasfilms for $4 Billion. So now, Disney will own Jim Henson, Marvel, and Lucasfilms. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on October 30, 2012, 9:59 pm

Barack Obama II - Celebrities
One week away from the big day... do you think Obama will be reelected or Romney will win? Me, I'm not thrilled either way. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on October 30, 2012, 9:15 pm

Hercules: The Animated Series - TV Shows
I'd rather watch the Hercules cartoons from the 1960s than this incarnation. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on October 30, 2012, 6:09 pm

Scorpions - Music Groups
The scorpions put out one of the greatest power ballads ever, "Still Loving You." However, I hate "Winds of Change." -- Submitted By: (JayD) on October 30, 2012, 5:44 pm

Moody Blues, The - Music Groups
If fans had a say about who gets inducted into the rock hall of fame, they would have been inducted in their first year of eligibility, yet the powers that be continue to snub them. Overall, they never boned but they did have their share of missteps, including "Sitting at the Wheel" which sounds almost like "Running on Empty." -- Submitted By: (JayD) on October 30, 2012, 5:33 pm

Worst-Case Scenario (book series) - Random Topics
I happen to be a fan of this series. very helpful for life skills they don't teach you in school and even an enjoyable read. never boned -- Submitted By: (wambamsam) on October 30, 2012, 5:31 pm

America (band) - Music Groups
Never boned, and they beat out the Eagles for best new artist at the grammies back in the early 70s. Of course the Eagles would go on to eclipse America in success, but it didn't mean that America's music is inferior. It isn't. Anyway, Rhino put out a great 22 song hits package about a decade ago that covered their entire career, yet it's harder to find these days than their still in print Greatest Hits album from the mid 70s. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on October 30, 2012, 5:22 pm

Steve Miller Band - Music Groups
Good stuff but his mid to late 70s material is overplayed on classic rock stations, that is songs that appear on his greatest hits(74-78)album which for some reason is still available despite a more recent and more comprehensive collection that had been available for a while and could now be out of print. This one has a few of his early songs like "Living in the USA" and "Space Cowboy." -- Submitted By: (JayD) on October 30, 2012, 5:07 pm

Avril Lavigne - Celebrities
She is the poster child for bad Canadian Music. I think it is fittling that she has hooked up with the guy from Nickelback. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on October 30, 2012, 4:42 pm

Nightmare on Elm Street - Movie Series
All I can say is about the remake is Jackie Earl Hayley did a decent job as Freddy but the rest of the cast is too bland and boring, especially the Remake Nancy, she just too annoying. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on October 29, 2012, 6:09 am

Dr. Seuss movies (live-action) - Movie Series
The live-action Grinch wasn't horrible, but it certainly wasn't as good as the animated version. The live action Cat in the Hat? Let's just say that the only thing I really liked about the film was that it's the reason why there haven't been any more live action movies based on Dr. Suess' books. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on October 28, 2012, 5:41 pm

Monty Python's Flying Circus - TV Shows
Benny Hill was much funnier (Python boned from the start). MPFC was a mess from the get-go.In one ep the Pythons made up one of them to look like Hill and they played his theme music in the background. He was what the Pythons tried but failed to be -- Submitted By: (gb) on October 27, 2012, 7:59 pm
